An athlete’s skin is not like the skin of most other people. Since athletes tend to sweat, spend a lot of time outside, and take on harsher conditions, the skincare routine of an athlete must be able to stand up to rigorous training. Below, you will find some things that can help an athlete cope with difficult skin issues.

Natural Ingredients

Some natural ingredients seem to have been fashioned by Mother Nature strictly for the use of athletes. These ingredients include lavender, peppermint, rosemary, and eucalyptus. All of these things have various benefits that can help the skin of an athlete, and all of these things are entirely natural.

Let’s delve a bit further into the natural ingredient world. Beginning with lavender, you’ll soon see why your skin deserves a bit of an organic boost. It should also be stated that while athletes can certainly benefit from these ingredients, almost all skin types will also show improvement when treated with natural substances.

Lavender, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus

Lavender has been around for quite a long time. This ancient herb was once used to heal the scars and wounds of great fighters, and it can still be used today for the very same reasons. There are numerous lavender scrubs and creams out there, but the best are one hundred percent organically certified.

Just the thought of peppermint can instantly conjure up an ice cold sensation. Peppermint is often used to soothe hurting stomachs, but it can also be used to help tired muscles relax. Look for a peppermint balm that is natural and organic.

Sure, koala bears love eucalyptus, but it can also benefit humans too. Eucalyptus based products will help with problem skin, sore muscles, and as a type of alternative medicine for other aches and pains.

Stay Away From These Ingredients

While organic ingredients are good for your skin, there are some other ingredients that may be very harmful to your skin – especially the tender skin of an athlete. Try to stay away from the following ingredients: dyes, detergents, sodium lauryl sulphate, petroleum, and parabens.

These products are all bad for your skin. In addition, there are numerous other products that you should try and avoid at all times. How do you know what products to use and which ones to avoid? Well, the solution to skincare is really simple – only use those products that are all-natural.

Read the ingredient label for all skincare products that you pick up. If you cannot pronounce an ingredient, then it probably isn’t the best choice for your skin. To make your selection easier, take the time to try out a few organic skincare products.

We cannot avoid coming into contact with chemicals during life in the 21st century. Whilst we stay extremely aware of the chemical content of our food, and many people – if not in fact all people – now try and avoid conventional or mass produced food stuffs where there is a fear that an overhanging number of chemicals exist and choose instead natural or organic produced products.

The thought that the same principal should apply to skincare is less well established but is now rapidly catching up with the slow and organic food movements which have been gathering momentum during the last five years or so.

The reason for this is simply put: our skin absorbs the substances, creams and so on that we put onto it in exactly the same way that our body absorbs the various aspects of the food that we put into it, and for this reason many people are using natural skincare products as a means of retracting away from the synthetic present that we have built for ourselves and back towards a more natural and easy time.

Apart from fears over the carcinogenic harm that some ingredients that are routinely used in skincare and cosmetic products are proven to cause – sodium lauryl sulphates for example – there is a clear link between the use, and specifically the overuse, of skincare products comprised of many chemicals and the premature aging of the skin.

There are chemicals all around us of course, especially if we live in cities where the air has become heavy with the escaping vapours of cars and the pluming waste smoke from industrial plants and factories, and so it is unavoidable that the skin will always come into contact with a certain level of chemical contamination. However, it should be said that organic skincare products offer a serious boon to people who want to escape the premature aging that chemicals can cause to the delicate skin of people.

If it’s one thing that’s bad for the skin, its a fluctuation in temperature, and that’s what makes January a very testing time for people who spend work in doors, with the heating on full blast, and have to deal with play time out in the wintry cold.

Here then, are 10 top tips for taking care of your precious skin.

Hydrate

It sounds really simple, but drinking water is seriously good for your skin; like you, your skin gets thirsty, and it dries up. Dry skin causes all kinds of blemishes, and – particularly in this hot and cold conundrum – can make your skin look worn and cracked. So drink plenty of water and reap the benefits!

Get Moisture!

In the dry cold climate it’s good to try and get a bit of moisture into the work and the home. Investing in a humidifier might sound odd and a little geeky, but it really can work wonders; getting that moisture back to your skin is a really useful thing.

Make sure to Exfoliate

Old, dead cells will make skin look old and dead. Giving the skin a good exfoliating scrub removes those dead cells. It invigorates and regenerates the look of your skin, and is a good combatant in the war against those cold nasties.

Use a Moisturiser

Really, you should make sure that the moisturiser you use is oil based, or it may still dry out the skin. If it doesn’t, then it might still dry out your skin.If it’s at least 75% oil-based, though, it should do the trick. In combination with exfoliation, a good moisturiser works a treat.

Sun Lotion

True, it sounds weird to recommend sun lotion during cold weather. But the truth is, sunscreen protects the skin from a number of elements, and a number of those are still prevalent in the cold,; the sun doesn’t go away just because it’s winter! and that, combined with other elements, takes its toll on the skin, but can be negated by a bit of sunscreen.

Wear Gloves

Effective and simple. but easy to forget! it keeps the hands nice and warm, and shields them from the potential harm of fluctuating hot and cold weather and temperatures.

Getting Plenty of Flaxseed Oil

Does the work of a moisturiser, but on the inside of the body. It has some good vital acids and really does the body – and naturally, then, the skin – real good. Doesn’t taste great, but we all have to make sacrifices!
Using Oils in the Bath
just a couple of drops of moisturising oils in the bath can go a long way to helping the skin stay smooth.

Avoid the Blow Drier

This is not good for winter, so avoid it if you can! Try the messy look, or the waxy look; great skin and original hair never goes amiss, right?

Don’t Lick your Lips!
Like eating a doughnut and not getting rid of the sugar, not licking your lips during winter is very very difficult. But it does not help, not one bit. Avoid it at all costs! Your lips will be all the better. Simply keep a lip balm handy.

So there you have it. Take these tips, and go forth!

Having a bad hair day? Well a bad skin day can take a lot longer to fix I can tell you. Your skin is the largest and most visible organ you have since it covers the entire body. Having attractive, healthy skin starts from the inside and reflects on the outside. The first step towards taking proper care of your skin is to determine what type of skin you are in right now.

Looking both inside and outside our bodies it would seem common sense to reduce the cocktail of chemicals around us whenever possible. They are present in household cleaners, furniture, and pollution from cars. There seems to be no escape from damaging our skin so where do we start? The food that we eat is perhaps the most obvious start or reducing the number of chemicals and pesticides in our bodies. However, for those of us who use them, skin and body care products are another very direct point of contact between ourselves and the world of invasive chemicals.

If you have changed to organic eating habits, you might be wondering about an organic solution for skin care. The cosmetics, perfumes and cleansers that we use contain chemicals that are easily absorbed through skin, or through our lungs when we inhale the perfume. These chemicals then rapidly enter the bloodstream. Should this be a concern?

People choose organically produced foods because they believe these foods are safer. So if you treat your skin with chemically produced substances that have also been proven to affect lab animals in negative ways (even though testing cosmetics on animal labs seems to have reduced), the same negative effects will happen to your skin. Natural or Organic skin care is the care of the skin using ingredients such as herbs, roots, and flowers. They are combined with natural oils and waters. These ingredients do not include chemicals that may be harmful to your body or be the reason of certain unwanted side effects. The body shops founder realised these decades ago and built a multinational company that has recently been sold to L’Oreal.

Which types of food are good for our skin?

Avoid too much fat and grease. A diet full of variety is the most beneficial for our skin. Fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins and minerals responsible for maintaining skin integrity. Protein is also a key player. Some important nutrients are vitamin A and vitamin C. Vitamin A deficiency can cause dry, scaly skin.

Look out for the labels!

Many labels have long lists of chemical names, some followed by the phrase derived from … (some natural substance). This is grossly misleading for consumers who are looking for genuine natural products.

However, the term certified organic is governed by a number of internationally recognised bodies. In Australia the Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA) is the largest and the Soil Association in the UK. Searching for products with the logo of a certifying body on the label is the only way you can guarantee the organic authenticity and integrity of every ingredient in the product. This can then truly be called a natural product.

Organics are becoming more popular food items. Basically, the term means that the grower of the base ingredients avoids the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers.

Plastics and polymers are examples of man-made organics. Fatty acids, hormones, proteins, peptides, vitamins, oils and amino acids are naturally occurring ones. These cosmetic ingredients are sometimes derived from or extracted from nourishing plants.

Sunscreens are common anti aging ingredients. They may be naturally occurring or manmade.

Most synthetic ingredients are derived from petrochemicals or petroleum byproducts. Constant exposure to those compounds is believed by many to increase a person’s lifetime risk of cancer.

So, it is really important to look for an all-natural organic night cream. That could be even harder to find, but it is well worth the effort. Not only are natural ingredients safer, the latest research indicates that they are more effective, especially when it comes to de-aging the skin’s appearance. Antioxidants like coenzyme Q10 have been shown to reverse sun damage and wrinkles.

Cold-pressed Shea butter, which is extracted from the nut of the Shea tree in Africa, has been shown to soften the skin, smooth out wrinkles and moisturizer. Avocado extracts have been shown to increase the amount of collagen in the skin.

So, those are some of the ingredients to look for in an organic night cream. Another one to look for is natural vitamin E. Cosmetic companies prefer to use artificial preservatives because they are cheaper. Natural vitamin E is an effective preservative and it also reduces the risk of age spots and wrinkles.

You don’t have to give up on your search for an organic night anti-aging cream review, if you don’t want to. If you do find one, you should still evaluate the ingredients for safety and effectiveness.

Caring for your skin organically is much like eating organic foods. It means you don’t want to use chemicals on your body any more than you want to put them into it. That means that not only are the ingredients used in these products organic, but they have to be grown organically, as well. No pesticides or other chemicals can be used on them during the growing or manufacturing process.

When looking for organic skin care products, there are some terms that will help you find the best ones. If a product label says 100% organic, then that is exactly what it means. If it just says “organic”, then it is at least 95% organic. If the label just says that the product is “made with organic ingredients”, then they are only required to be made with 70% of organic ingredients. If you don’t know your terminology, you may not be getting what you want in a product.

Why is this type of skin care product increasing in demand? Because more and more women are realizing that natural is not only safer for their skin but is also healing without the side effects you can get from harsh products. It’s not unusual to use a skin care product and have an allergic reaction to it. It even happens after you’ve used a product for a long period of time. When you use organic products on your skin, it is very unlikely you will develop any reaction no matter how long you use it.

Due to their lack of side effects, women with delicate or sensitive skin usually get much better results from organic products. Even those who have problems with a sensitive scalp can find relief. Sometimes, shampoos can be irritating and even lead to hair loss. Those who have switched to organic products have had a much greater success.

Acne treatments are also a type of organic skin care that has been highly successful. Often, the treatments that have chemicals as their ingredients only dry skin and worsen the problem. Those with only organic ingredients have been proven to be more effective without worsening the acne.

The only problem with using organic skin care products is the one we have in our own minds. Too often, we think that anything that is natural can’t possibly be strong enough to perform to our expectations. Just the opposite has proven to be true. Not only can you find products that are natural and do what they promise, but they also perform without the harmful side effects that so many of us have experienced in the past.
